About Jethro

Jethro started his career in gardening in 2002 when he got work experience at a Specialist Herbaceous Perennial Nursery under the very knowledgeable John Graham. After impressing John with his enthusiasm to work and learn, Jethro worked at Steventon Road Nurseries for two Summers and many Saturdays while still attending secondary school.

On leaving school, Jethro landed a job with the well-known Mattock’s Roses directly for Robert Mattock, alongside studying for his City & Guilds National Certificate in Horticulture.

Completing his year with a distinction, Jethro started a day release course in garden design while starting up his garden maintenance business, working alongside Adam and Pip Stacey who inspired him to pursue a life-long career in self-employed gardening.

In 2006, Jethro decided to continue his education in horticulture and was awarded one of the very limited places for the RHS Diploma in Practical Horticulture at the World renowned RHS Wisley. This placement consisted of 2 years, gaining experience in each of the eight departments around the magnificent 240-acre garden. Being educated daily by some of the top specialists in their fields, gaining invaluable knowledge of a broad spectrum of practical horticulture.

Leaving Wisley with a distinction and top marks in his coursework, Jethro returned to the Oxfordshire countryside to follow his passion to offer a very high standard in private garden services. He specialises in hedge cutting and topiary after recognising his naturally good eye for straight lines and his creativity and imagination to envisage, create and maintain topiary in a multitude of shapes and sizes.

Jethro now focuses his business on Topiary creation and maintenance, hedge cutting and specialist pruning of shrubs, climbers and small trees to optimise flowering, fruiting and shape. While still offering regular maintenance for clients that would like the highest standards of year-round garden maintenance.

Jethro’s also building on his knowledge of the fascinating art of Bonsai. Having been a passion and hobby for many years and having built up a large collection in excess of one hundred specimens. Jethro would like to offer some of his Bonsai for sale alongside offering guidance, advice and amateur workshops to anyone interested.
